Stretch Marks - Symptom, Causes & Treatment

Stretch Marks are common condition that leaves fine lines on the body skin. Stretch marks are quite common in pregnancy; about 50-90% of women will get stretch marks on their abdomen, breasts, thighs or buttocks during pregnancy. Stretch marks happen when the tissue under the skin is pulled by rapid growth or stretching. They are are small, depressed streaks in your skin caused by tiny tears in the elastic supportive tissue that lies just underneath your skin and helps the skin stretch.

If you're noticing stretch marks on your body, you're not alone. Stretch marks most often appear on the abdomen in the later stages of pregnancy when the belly is rapidly expanding to accommodate a growing baby. And while they're more common in girls, guys can get stretch marks, too.

What Causes Stretch Marks?

It depends mostly on how elastic your skin is, and that's a matter of genetics.

  • Family history
  • Ethnicity is another matter
  • Weight gain and weight loss can also change the magnitude of your marks.
  • Itching during Pregnancy

How to get rid of stretch marks permananty

A good way to get rid of stretch marks is to help repair the collagen and elastin growth in your skin. Stretch marks usually are only a cosmetic problem, but rarely, if extensive they may ulcerate or tear easily in an accident. Stretch marks occurring in adolescents become less visible over time and generally require no treatment. Some studies have shown that topical ointments, such as tretinoin cream (Retin-A) may help with stretch marks when applied after your baby is born.

The most effective product for just-forming stretch marks is definitely tretinoin, the topical form of vitamin A. Tretinoin stimulates the production of collagen and interrupts the inflammatory process that breaks down the dermis.
