Psoriasis - Info on Psoriasis Symptom, Causes & Treatment

Psoriasis is an Inflammation skin disorder that most commonly appears edematous skin lesions covered with a silvery white scale.Psoriasis is a disease of skin which is caused by cells turnover in the skin. Psoriasis can develop on the elbows, lower back, the nape of the neck, and the scalp, though it is occasionally found on other areas of the body.

How is psoriasis caused?

The development of psoriasis begins with a breakdown in the body's immune system when a T cell malfunctions. Psoriasis is a one of the oldest skin problems. While scientists are trying to know about the real cause of psoriasis, research has significantly advanced our understanding.

  • Genetics -- you can simply inherit the condition
  • Infections
  • Certain medications, such as lithium, beta-blockers, and steroids
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Smoking
  • Anxiety and stress

Types of psoriasis

Inverse psoriasis : A smooth, red lesions form in skin folds.

Erythrodermic psoriasis: There is widespread redness, severe itching, and pain.

Guttate psoriasis: There are small, red spots on the skin.

Plague Psoriasis: It is the most common type of psoriasis. About 70 to 80% of people who develop psoriasis, which appears as patches of raised, reddish skin covered by silvery-white scale.

Pustular psoriasis: White pustules surrounded by red skin.

Treatment and Cure of Psoriasis

It depends on the severity and its kind. Some psoriasis is so temperate that the person is unaware of the condition. Natural UV rays such as UVA or UVB from the sun and artificial ultraviolet light both are good for treatment of psoriasis. A few develop such severe psoriasis that injuries cover most of the body and hospitalization is required.
