Pompholyx - Symptoms and Treatment of Pompholyx Aluminium

Pompholyx is a common type of eczema affecting the feet. It is also referred to as dyshidrotic eczema or vesicular eczema. Pompholyx is common in infants and small children (affecting about one in seven), but it usually clears before adulthood. The name pompholyx comes from the Greek word for bubble, which accurately describes this disorder. The condition is difficult to treat because of the peculiarities of the affected skin, namely, the thick horny layer and richness of sweat glands.

Pompholyx Causes

The exact cause of Pompholyx is unknown. Abnormal amount of sweating by the individual, hot weather, stress, grief, and in some cases the use of certain detergents in washing dishes or clothes are some of the main causes of this disease. Pompholyx can occur in any type of breed secondary to other skin disorders, but the inherited primary form is seen almost exclusively in the dachshund.

Pompholyx Treatment and Remedies

  • Use a moisturizer frequently.
  • Apply shea butter or another active moisturizer liberally and often, particularly after bathing, and when itchy.
  • Avoid harsh soaps.
  • Soak your feet in a solution to dry up blisters

Symptoms of Pompholyx

Some sign and symptoms related to Pompholyx are as follows:

  • Cracks and fissures in the skin.
  • Excessive sweating.
  • Appearing of tiny blisters (vesicles) deep in the skin.
  • The pain can occur with larger blisters.
  • Infection with herpes simplex (the cold sore virus) may cause a severe blistering rash.
  • Intense itching at the site of the blistering.
  • Severe pompholyx around the nail folds may cause nail dystrophy, resulting in irregular ridges and chronic paronychia (nail fold swelling).
