Granuloma Annulare - Symptoms and Treatement of Granuloma Annulare

Granuloma annulare is a long-term (chronic) skin disease consisting of a rash with reddish bumps arranged in a circle or ring. Granuloma Annulare is one of those rare skin conditions that only affect a few people and for which scientists still have no permanent cure, mainly because the cause is still unknown.

Symptoms of the condition

In most cases, granuloma annulare causes no symptoms, or a just mild itch at the start of any new area. It can be tender if knocked. The following are the most common symptoms of granuloma annulare. The symptoms may vary from person to person but the common signs include:

  • One or more bumps on the hands, feet, legs, and arms.
  • Yellowish skin color bumps.
  • Granuloma annulare may appear as a firm nodule under the skin of the arms or legs.
  • The lesions improve during the winter months and worsen again at the start of summer.
  • Grouped bumps may expand to annular bumps ranging in size from 1-6 centimeters in diameter.
  • The bumps may in rare cases appear on the penis and face.
  • The papules don't scale or hurt.
  • Papules around the ring are close but don't grow together.

Diagnosis for Granuloma Annulare

The doctor does a visual examination of the skin, reviews your history of diabetes and takes a skin sample. the diagnosis is not obvious, and other conditions may be considered. In such cases, a small biopsy will help to confirm the diagnosis.

Granuloma Annulare Treatment

There is no really effective treatment for Granuloma Annulare. A skin biopsy may also be necessary to confirm the diagnosis of granuloma annulare. Its treatment includes Corticosteroid creams under waterproof bandages, surgical tape saturated with a corticosteroid, or injected corticosteroids. Some important Home Remedies are as:

  • Apply natural mayonnaise, either homemade or from natural foods store. Massage into skin, leave on for 15-20 minutes, rinse thoroughly with warm water.
  • You can try to apply vinegar to the affected areas for a period of 30 days. Keep it on the papules for 15 minutes at a time. The acid seems to reduce the appearance of Granuloma Annulare.
  • Always massage a cellulite cream thoroughly with your fingertips. It makes them double effective.
  • Granuloma Annulare suffering patients must follow a detox diet - a healthy low-fat, high fibre diet containing plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
