Age Spots
Age spots tend to be very common among people over the age of forty, although it is possible for them to affect people who are younger also. They are small spots of skin which become discolored and may consist of colors such as gray, brown or even black.
Age spots are generally caused by sun exposure. Thus, the best way to prevent them from affecting your skin is to make sure that you apply sun block every time that you go outside. Although there is not much scientific research on it, most doctors believe that the sun exposure that you had when you were younger can cause the sun to become affected by age spots later on.
Most people find age spots to be very embarrassing because they are often associated as a sign of aging. It is possible for you to have the age spots bleached in order to make them a lot less evident. Unfortunately, however, health insurance will not usually cover age spots due to the fact that treatment is considered cosmetic. Generally, the best thing that you can do is take care of your skin the best that you possibly can in order to simply prevent them from happening in the first place, as treatment may be somewhat expensive, depending on the severity of your sun spots and where you will receive your treatments.
Since age spots tend to be similar in appearance to non-cancerous or cancerous areas of the skin, it is a good idea to have them checked out by a dermatologist, regardless of whether or not you want to have them treated.
