Acne Vulgaris - Symptoms, Treatment, Home remedies for Acne Vulgaris

"The most common form of acne is known as "acne vulgaris", meaning "common acne." Acne Vulgaris is a common form of acne, a inflammatory condition of the skin characterized by comedones, papules and painful lesions on the surface of the skin or pustules. It is caused by changes in the pilosebaseous units and tiny hair follicles on the face and body get clogged due to the excessive secretion of oils. It usually affects in teen and adults.

Acne vulgaris usually appears in the following forms:

    -Blackheads
    -Whiteheads
    -Cysts
    -Pustules
    -Redness
    -Inflammation

What causes Acne Vulgaris?

The cause of Acne Vulgaris are attributed to the genetic pattern of a person. One important factor does seem to be rising levels of the hormones called androgens (male sex hormones) that are found in both boys and girls at the time of puberty. It is hereditary in nature and runs through families. Some other major causes for this acne disorder are:

  • It occurs when the pores of the skin become plugged
  • Cosmetic agents
  • Genetic or hereditary
  • Some medicines like steroids, testosterone , estrogen, lithium can also trigger it.
  • High levels of humidity and sweating
  • It may trigger due to the eating of chocolate or greasy foods.
  • It occurs due the hormonal changes occur in puberty when the skin becomes more oily.

What are the Symptoms of Acne Vulgaris?

  • It include blackheads, pimple and whiteheads which occurs on chest, neck, shoulders, back, face.
  • Larger cysts may also occur in some patient.

Treatment of Acne Vulgaris

  • Treatment should be toward the known pathogenic factors like excess sebum, and inflammation, hyperproliferation.
  • Topical therapies such as retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, and antibiotics.
  • Hormonal therapies (oral contraceptives) can also be used effectively
  • Lotions containing following ingredients should be help in treatment :salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, niacinamide gel and tea tree oil.

Home remedies for the treatment of Acne Vulgaris

  • Make a paste by mixing honey and cinnamon powder. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. Repeat for two weeks, pimples will disappear forever.
  • Make orange peel paste by grinding it in some water. Apply on and around pimples.
  • Take balanced diet and healthy food.
  • Stay away from junk food and exercise regularly.

Acne Vulgaris Medications

  • Antibiotics such as minocycline, minocycline, trimethoprim, trimethoprim, erythromycin, azelaic acid, etc is very useful.
  • Septicide cleanser for dry skin. It is effective bacterial control against P. acnes and other undesirable bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, Staphylococcus, etc.
  • Antibacterial cleanser such as Glycolic cleanser for excessively oily skin. It help to follicles clear of cellular debris and has minor antibacterial properties.
  • Oral antibiotics taken by mouth such as doxycycline, minocycline and tetracycline.

Precautions and self care for Acne Vulgaris

  • Don't touch your face with your hands or fingers.
  • Keep your skin clean with non-drying soap.
  • Treatment may take time to get acne control but keep trying the same treatment for 6 to 8 weeks. But avoid greasy cosmetics or creams.
  • You can have scar tissue to removed or have a shot of collagen.
