Lipstick Ingredients

Lipstick is a cosmetic that comes in a wide range of shades. It makes the lips attractive. These are made up of dyes and pigments with the presence of oil wax base. Fact is, the primary ingredients of a lipstick are oil, wax, pigments and some amount of alcohol. They are the basic products and artificial ones along with chemicals are added while making a lipstick properly.

Basic lipstick ingredient

Wax used is a combination of three types of waxes. Beeswax, camauba wax and candelilla wax are the waxes used. The purpose of wax is to give stable shape to the lipstick. Then there are various choices in oils. Mineral, lanolin, castor or even vegetable oils are used as ingredients of lipstick. Fragrance is added and some pigment as well. Various preservatives are added along with antioxidants.

Apart from basic lipstick ingredients, to make the lipstick smooth and glossy, some of the other natural and artificial ingredients are added to it. Their function is to keep the lipstick think, add shine, and make it smooth and long lasting. If possible, go for lipsticks which do not have alcohol as one of its ingredient.

The presence of pigments and colors as lipstick ingredients does all the essential work in a lipstick as it brings shade to it. Shade of a lipstick is important as according to it, the shopping of lipstick is done. If you do not own good lip brushes then do so as without lip brushes, the lip paint is not applied properly.

Selection of shades of lipsticks

The selection of shade is something that always confuses people. If you have a fair skin, the mostly all shades would go with the skin tone, especially nude shades, natural shades, family of pinks and oranges, browns, etc.

For people with medium skin tone, pink family is good but try to avoid baby pink. You should stay away from dark shades and even light shades. Instead go for medium shades like chocolate brown, red, etc.

For dark skin, dark shades work the best. Try olive, deep pink, deep red, magenta, purples, etc. always shop for branded lipsticks because cheap lipstick could ruin the natural color of lips and make them dry.

Before applying lipsticks, moisturize them well so that the chemicals inside it do not harm lips. Do not over apply lip paints. Keep the makeup minimal and basic as it always looks good. So this is all about the lipstick's ingredients and its use.
