Moles

The medical terms for moles are nevi, which is a congenital or acquired tumor of the skin that is benign. This can be pigmented or nonpigmented, flat or elevated and hairy or nonhairy. The common type of nevi is nevocellular that characterize by pigmented skin lesions resulting from proliferation of melanocytes in the epidermis and dermis. Nevocellular are also tan to deep brown, uniformly pigmented, small papules with well- defined, rounded boarders. They are formed initially by melanocytes with their long dendritic extensions that are normally interperse among the basal keratinocytes.

It is important to take note for the different classical signs of nevi because some nevi are cancerous. A normal mole has even, round contour and sharply defined borders. A change in appearance of a mole is asymmetry. For abnormal change in appearance of a mole, it has a color and uneven pigmentation; diameter is greater than six millimeter. Changes in the surface are scaliness, oozing and bleeding. Nevus that is cancerous is itchy and causes some irritation. This can also be distributed in any parts or production of small nevi just near the area of the nevi. Cancerous nevus has many hairs within, there is an increase in size, and the boarder is irregular. Sometimes the discharge is not only bleeding, this can also be clear discharge and produce an odorous scent. This can also produce an irritation around the boarder. Sometimes the cancerous nevus is different in color this can be green or red.

For the prevention and treatment of nevi, avoid scratching the mole. Take note if there are discharges and changes in shape and color. Do not apply talcum powder, lotion and perfumes. When taking a bath do not scrub because this can irritate and cause bleeding. Minimize touching the area and make a list if how many new moles are present. If the new ones that are produce, twenty or more moles had better consult a dermatologist. For medical treatment, surgeries are advised for faster removal but this can be taken for considerations because moles that are malignant are not favorable for surgery; this can cause metastasis and bring harmful effects to the body and can even affect and destroy the skins protective layer.

A license dermatologist determines laser and natural removals of nevi because he can provide the best remedy. The most common type of surgery for moles is the punch biopsy and excisional surgery; this done once only compared to other type of mole removal. The laser mole removal has three to four sessions and the price is twice the surgical excision. For natural removal, application of prescribed dermatological creams is used. The application will take twice daily but this will be a long term to see the effect on it. Therefore, you are the one to make the final decision.
