Kaposi’s sarcoma
Kaposi's sarcoma is a malignancy of the endothelial cells that line small blood vessels. An opportunistic cancer, that occurs in immunosuppressed clients such as transplant recipients of Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome. This is one of the first opportunistic cancers associated with acquired immune deficiency syndrome and remains the most frequent malignancy related to human immunodeficiency virus. This is common to those who have multiple sexual partners and a complication to hiv and aids. The virus has been detected in saliva from infected persons and other modes of transmission are suspected.
Several signs and symptoms of Kaposi's sarcoma are lesions in the oral cavity, gastrointestinal tract and lungs. The disease usually begins as one, more macules then it will turn into papules, or voilet skin lesions that are enlarge and become darker. They may continue to grow to form plaques or tumors. Tumor nodules will appear on the trunk, neck and head but most common at the tip of the nose. They usually are painless in the early stage but as it progresses this become very painful. The client will experience bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract either lower or upper, nausea and vomiting, weight loss, severe diarrhea of hematokechia. For the late stage, dyspnea, cough and hemoptysis; the progression of this disease can be slow or fast because it depends on the immune system of the client. To confirm Kaposi's sarcoma biopsy is being performed endoscopy and bronchoscopy.
For the treatment of late stage of Kaposi's sarcoma this are chemotherapy, liquid nitrogen and radiation therapy. This is done in the hospital premises with a licensed doctor because of the many side effects of this therapy, the patient will suffer from severe weight loss. Therefore, diet modification is implemented to maintain the weight of the client because it is already impossible to increase weight gain. To avoid having Kaposi's sarcoma, maintain a monogamous relationship and make sure to wash before and after intercourse your sexual organs. Change underwear everyday and avoid kissing someone if you suspected him or her of polygamous.
