Medieval Hairstyles

Most people are aware that the hairstyles for each decade, never really die. They seem to recycle themselves, and come back onto the fashion scene. It is not well known, however, that some of the trendy styles have an older origin. They don't simple relate to a specific decade, but rather an entirely different era and period.

Medieval hairstyles are some of these. There are many hair fashions that have hung around for a long time. Some of these mainstays are actually medieval hairstyles. Many of these have an authentic Celtic charm and European grace. Women of all ages have adopted these current styles.

One of these medieval hairstyles most commonly seen, uses hair clips or scrunchies. The hair is simply brushed back loosely, and held by a clip. This is seen as a sort of low laying ponytail. It rests at the nape of the neck. You can wear this style straight or with curls. Often today, this medieval hairstyle is displayed with loose curls.

Another gorgeous style, which has medieval roots, is the braided crown. This look is achieved by women who have long hair. A long braid is used to wrap around the crown of the head. The rest of the hair is pinned into place. This creates a classic style, which can work for both casual and formal engagements.

Other braided creations are medieval hairstyles, too. The style, commonly referred to as the French braid, has a medieval version. This one, typically uses two braids, one on either side of the head.
