The 1980's brought many wonderful authentic hairstyles. Although there were some styles that originated in different eras, the 80's held onto many original styles. These hairstyles to those of the 60's and 70's and elevated them to a completely different level. This was a time of new styles and fashions.
Women often wore teased hairstyles in the 80's. These looks were similar to the bouffant styles of the 50's and 60's. The similarity was primarily in the height they produced. The 80's height came directly from teasing and then hair spraying. These styles were worn by women of all ages. They worked well casually and formally, depending on your taste.
Another great style that was born in the 80's was the entire punk phase. These styles incorporated spiked hair. Some of these were seen during the disco era, but were more common during the 80's. Right now we are seeing styles like the emo, which are related in composition to the 80's punk styles.
This was also the time when we began to see the use of vivid colors in hairstyles. Bright pinks, reds, and greens were worn by rockers and teens. Today those vibrant colors are normal, and a part of everyday life. They aren't used by only one set, but almost every segment of the culture.
