Plucking (tweezing), Eyebrow Plucking, hair removal

Plucking (tweezing) is an effective way of pulling out individual stray hairs on the eyebrow area, and can be painful. (Never tweeze the hairs on the upper lip or chin, or those on a pigmented mole.) Plucking is the removal of hair using a tweezer.  This is not recommended for those who are planning to remove massive amount of hair.  Hair is totally removed from the roots which can assure longer growth time.

Always use a good quality pair of tweezers; an inferior one could break off hairs or tweeze your skin along with the hair. Tweezing is used to deal with unwanted eyebrow hair and some facial hair. Plucking is used only for stray hair in the eye brows or for the hair strands left on the body after waxing or using depilatories.

Plucking is an effective way of pulling out stray eyebrow hairs. Refrain from tweezing your chin or upper lip, however, as this can cause a distortion of the papillae, which can lead to branching and increased growth. Similarly, never pluck any hairs growing from pigmented moles - they have a tendency to turn cancerous.

How to Pluck Eyebrows

Tweezers should also be given proper care like razors because they come in contact with open pores.

Plucking Benefits and Advantages

A benefit of eyebrow plucking is that, if tweezing is done correctly, it does not damage the skin and, like threading gets rid of stray hairs for two to four weeks. It can be used to remove individual hairs such as eyebrow tweezing, facial hair tweezing.

Rubbing some ice over the area that you plan to pluck before you start may help to slightly numb the site, making it less painful. It lasts long enough.  This can be used for stray hairs, a thing a razor cannot do.

Disadvantages of Plucking: Frequent tweezing can cause in time discoloration, infection of the hair follicles and enlarged pores.  The possibility of ingrown hairs is also big since the hair is removed from the roots.

Hair Plucking and Tweezing: Considerations

  • It is painful when pulling hairs out.
  • Time-consuming as it involves removing hairs individually.
  • Plucking can lead to ingrown hair or scars on skin.
  • Always keep hair tweezers sterile and clean in order to avoid infection.
