Signs Of Teenage Depression

Teenage Depression is one of the most discussed topics these days. There are many stories making headlines about the results of this sort of depression. Teens are less likely than adults to divulge their issues with this condition. For this reason, symptoms are not being addressed. Parents are finding that there are symptoms that they did not know about.

Dealing with teens and depression often takes a different approach. Extra effort is required by parents and other care givers. Even teachers are being instructed on the importance of this issue. Its correlation to suicide in recent years makes this a very real concern to address.

Let's take a look at some of the common signs of teenage depression.

Experiencing low confidence

Issues with self confidence are typical when it comes to the teenage years. This is one of the reasons that this sign is overlooked. For some teens, however, this problem is more pronounced. It is related to a lack of interest in school and other things.

Parents must discuss this issue with their teenagers. Low confidence could be a result of bullying or other problems at school. Dealing with illness or trauma can also be connected to teenage depression. For this reason, communication is very important.

Displaying irritable behavior

Certain behaviors are commonly associated with the teenage years. Irritability is one of the typical things that are experienced. When this issue becomes more difficult to shed, it needs to be addressed. For many teens irritable behavior is a defense against communication.

They do not want to share their problems with others. Parents must address these issues instead of letting them pass. These issues are often practical ones to deal with. They need to be discussed with understanding. Teens need to feel that they have somewhere to go when problems arise.

Eating or sleeping disorders

Eating and sleeping disorders are some of the noticeable signs of teenage depression. Parents will notice easily that these problems are occurring. Emotional concerns or stressful situations can be connected to lack of sleep and decrease eating.

Both of these symptoms can lead to physical issues. When eating problems occur, you may notice an increase or a decrease in weight. This is often an abnormal occurrence. Insomnia is also connected to teenage depression. A lack of sleep may result in a number or irrational behaviors from teens. Parents must discuss these issues with their children.
